Choosing and booking your trip

Take your pick

With a fleet of 380 boats and 24 starting bases in France, the Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, Italy and Poland, Locaboat Holidays can offer varied itineraries and a new way of discovering unspoilt regions.

Choose your cruise by destination or special interest: Heritage and History? Food and Wine? Bathing? A City Break? Our holiday ideas will help you find the trip which best meets your expectations. See our Themed Cruises section.

As for the route, there is a wide range to choose from. Locaboat offers 200 different cruises on the canals and rivers of France. You can search by region, length of trip, start day and whether it’s one-way or a return cruise. Whatever you choose, discovering France from this new perspective will never cease to delight you.

Simple and flexible booking

When you have decided where and when you’d like to take a cruise you can find which boat is available and then BOOK your holiday direct online.

Just a few clicks will bring you to the list of boats available, showing destination, your choice of week and the price.

If you need time to discuss things with your party, you can HOLD your cruise for a few days.

Or, you can also fill in an availability request online and we will reply to you quickly by email, with a list of available holidays that closely match your request.

You can also contact us by email or telephone; our teams will be delighted to answer you.

A down-payment of 40% will be due when you make your booking. Various payment methods are possible. The balance is due one month prior to the start of your trip.

Book online – this link brings up a booking form pop-up. Is this intended? Better to provide a link to the ‘real’ page – although this format does make the booking form look much easy to read.

Life on board

Spacious and comfortable boats

Whatever model of Locaboat you choose, we do everything we can to make you feel at home. They are spacious, light and airy, with comfortable seating, heating and plenty of hot and cold water. You will love the social get-together areas, both inside and on deck.

The cabins have comfy beds with bed-linen provided and also have a good range of storage possibilities, an important feature of our boats.

Heating is provided with gas, using a forced-air heating system or by diesel oil in some models.

All the equipment you need on board

On board every Locaboat boat, you will find all the crockery and kitchen utensils you need for cooking – breakfast, lunch or a romantic dinner, whether in the heart of the countryside or moored up in a port. There’s an ironing board, oven, refrigerator, sink and cooking pans, saucepans and enough assorted crockery for the maximum number of passengers on board. Similarly, you’ll find all the bedding (sheets, duvets, pillows) and a set of towels matching the number of passengers.

You’ll feel at home in no time at all!

What you need to know

Easy cruising

A simple and practical initiation will teach you how to cruise our boats. A technician will give you all the instructions you need to ensure you feel at ease :

You will learn about how to use the equipment, engine and 'command' post. In no time at all, you will feel at home in your boat. We recommend that you spend the first night in your base, to ensure the best possible conditions for 'taking possession' of your new living space and so that you can check all the equipment you need to make your holiday as enjoyable as possible.

The following morning, you and your crew can head off on your cruise with total peace of mind. You will be the captain on board, able to tackle every facet of the cruising: manoeuvres, stopping, passing through locks.

Locks

Passing through a lock is a particularly special moment of your trip. You can chat with the lock-keeper, sometimes buy local produce, meet other holidaymakers and exchange some useful addresses, or simply enjoy the break to soak up the local atmosphere and landscape. Manoeuvres require a crew of at least two agile people.

Activities to discover

Our sales teams are waiting to hear from you. For us, the word 'service' has both a human and professional side. Our employees are experienced, multilingual and ready to provide enthusiastic advice. You can be assured of professional discussions and receiving the most useful information in order to choose the most suitable holiday for you and ensure that your first experience is unforgettable.

Once you have arrived at your starting base, our on-site welcome teams will help you discover their region and the places you must not miss. In addition, you will find a range of tourist brochures available on site. The navigation charts and the river guide will provide you with key information about restaurants, places to visit and where to refuel. You could also go on a hike or bike ride, visit a castle or church, stroll in the countryside or go swimming or fishing.

Safety and comfort

Our boat models have a range of safety equipment: it is easy to move around on board, using the wide gangways, protected by guardrails, and the huge, stable sun decks. In addition, children's life jackets are provided as standard.

Every effort has been made to ensure you feel at home: outdoors intimacy combined with the interiors, the spacious bedroom, the hot and cold water of the shower, forced-air heating and central heating, the copious amounts of storage space available. Sheets and blankets are supplied.

Boating legislation

To drive a self-drive hire boat from Locaboat requires no qualifications nor previous experience. We are allowed to rent a properly fitted out and certified boat for cruising in regions popular with tourists (but only where there is little commercial traffic) because we are fully insured ourselves.

In France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands and the Venetian Lagoon, Locaboat has authorisation from the local authorities to rent out boats without your having to purchase a licence yourself.

Theoretical and practical training before you set off on your cruise will ensure that you know how to drive your boat and understand the essential cruising rules.
