Right in the middle of the most famous vineyards of France such as the Côte de Beaune, the Côte Chalonnaise and Beaujolais, our base of Saint-Leger-sur-Dheune will give you the opportunity to discover the treasures of the Canal du Centre.

Easy to access from your Pénichette®, you will be able to discover Mercurey, Rully, Maranges and Montrachet that will be just a few steps from your Pénichette®.

One day and a half cruise from Saint-Léger, Chalon-sur-Saône will also amaze you. This city of Burgundy is worth a stop for its history and gastronomy at the Amaryllis, the Michelin-starred restaurant. The picturesque charm of the old medieval city will mark the limit of a different country influenced by the Mediterranean sea/area with its beautiful roman churches.

After Tournus, head for the river Seille and cruise through its rural countryside. This little authentic and secret river will lead you to Louhans drawing meanderings, there you will find some charming villages where it is nice to moore at.

3 questions for Lauren, our staff member of Saint-Léger

Which is your favorite route?

Without any doubt, it’s the route heading to Louhans, rather out and back from Saint-Léger or one way to our base in Loisy. This route is giving you the opportunity to see all the different aspects of the navigation. You cruise on 3 different waterways : the canal, the large river and the small river, and you discover 3 types of locks : automatic locks, the ones with lock keepers and other ones that you manage all by yourself.

During a one week cruise, you will discover South Burgundy through a route full of new discoveries and activities. You will go for a walk in the vineyards and will taste all the best wines. You will also have the possibility to ride your bike on the path along the canal. Along the Saône river, you will also visit the towns full of history and heritage such as Chalon, Tournus, Mâcon or you can also take a short break in Lyon.

Once on the Seille river, you will cruise even more leisurely at the heart of nature in this area of gastronomy with the Charolaise meat close to Saint Léger and the famous Bresse chicken near the Loisy base.

What are the events expected at the base of Saint-Leger for season 2014?

A lot of things! Firstly, we will receive 2 brand new boats : the Linssen boats which we are really looking forward to introducing to our customers ! On this occasion, we will name the boat “Meursault” on April 26th, do not hesitate to come and see us to the boat christening ceremony.

In May, we will also take part of the sailor and neighbourhood bloc party. Then, June will be the month of change for us as Philippe, our legendary base manager, will retire and a new team will then take the lead of the base.

Last question : can you give us one good reason to choose Saint Léger ?

There is more than one !
For the good wines and the gastronomy of Burgundy and for its lifestyle.
For its conviviality, and the welcoming team.
For its numerous cultural events that are expected this summer, and for its heritage and nature too.

Convinced? Then take advantage of our all inclusive offers on short cruises exclusively this month starting from one of our bases in South Burgundy and go for a cruise discovering this wonderful region.

Check them rapidly: availabilities are very limited for these offers at an exceptional price until the end of the month.

Great article, Lauren. It is very helpful to hear which are favorite destinations from locals, and to hear in more detail what the highlights are. One bit confused me though; you say your favorite trip is from Saint-Léger to Louhan rather than to the base at Loisy but, looking at the map it seems the way to Louhan is to travel to Loisy and then continue a little way further to Louhan. Is that correct?

Lots more articles like this please.
