DESTINATION OF THE MONTH : ATHLONE

In 2015, Locaboat is offering you new destination departing from Killinure Point our new base in Ireland where you will be warmly welcomed by the Quigley Family.

Our base is perfectly located on the majestic Shannon; the longest river in Ireland. On more than 220 km of waterways with just 6 manual locks, far from any commercial traffic, you will enjoy a delicious combination of natural heritage and historical sites, well-preserved lakes, natural parks and preserves for wild animals and birds

Some questions to Brian Quigley who manage the base

Which route is your favourite starting from Killinure Point ?

My favourite 1 week circuit from Killinure is a combination of South and North cruising which allows you to see the best of the mid Shannon area and cruise the majestic 'Lake of Kings' - Lough Ree !

A cruise South to Clonmacnoise 6th Century monastic site is a must when on the River Shannon , enjoy the slow pace of life on the river. Stop off in the nearby village of Shannonbridge where you can sample a traditional Irish pub !

Then cruise North and explore Athlone town not forgetting to visit the Castle visitor centre and Luain Gallery , and Ireland's oldest pub - Sean's Bar! After that its onto the wonderful Lough Ree with its many islands and sights.

You can continue North on the river Shannon and visit Tarmonbarry , Dromod , Rooskey and be sure to visit Clondra to see the start of the Royal canal which terminates in Dublin!

Wherever you decide to go you will receive a warm Irish welcome ; Just ask our advice for best places to visit and some great restaurants along the way !

Why would one choose Killinure Point as one’s next river cruise ?

Many reasons !

1. Over 200 km of unspoilt scenic inland waterways winding through the heart of Ireland with very few locks.

2. No commercial traffic on the waterways makes it very peaceful and there is plenty of the 'Old Ireland' to be seen in picturesque villages and countryside and heritage sites.

3. Great opportunity to see wildlife and a fisherman's paradise

4. Many excellent restaurants and pubs dotted along the River

And not forgetting the famous Irish welcome or « Céad Míle Fáilte »

Are you convinced?! Book now your cruise in Ireland and discover this wonderful country
