The 1020 Flying Bridge,
with its characteristically Dutch-style hull, resembles more a classy
yacht than the old barges which used to convey coal and grain the length
and breadth of France. Compact and easily handled, it provides extremely
comfortable quarters for four people who will never get under each other’s
feet. The floor is in richly polished wood and there are two cabins, one
in the bows with two beds which can be joined to form a double, the other
in the stern with a double bed, and both have their private shower rooms.
There is ample water pressure for lovely warm showers. The wide and roomy
saloon makes for leisurely and contented meals, which are cooked in the
adjoining kitchenette which offers all that the heart could desire…
refrigerator, oven, 2 burner hob, and crockery and cutlery for up to 6
people. Light floods into the saloon through generously sized sliding
windows, all is decorated in jewel-like blues and greens, there are cupboards
everywhere - in short, an elegant ambiance is combined with amazing practicality.
But the Flying Bridge’s best qualities are seen up on deck. Here
is an alternative living space with its own wheel and controls, which
you reach either from the bridge by climbing 4 steps with a chrome guardrail,
or from the stern cabin by a little ladder going up the outside. The raised
steering position makes for easier boat handling, with its 360 degree
field of vision, much appreciated when manoeuvring. On the deck is a table,
into which you can insert a sun-umbrella, and a rounded bench-seat. These
provide the holidaymaker with unforgettable moments both at mealtimes
and when cruising, since you see so much more of the countryside. You
might call it the icing on the cake.
