Why such a Green Fortnight?
At Locaboat, we are committed to promoting a kind of holiday that is respectful of the territories, the local economy, the inhabitants and the environment.
From our perspective, choosing to visit European waterways at a slow pace is a commitment to a sustainable and authentic tourism, beneficial to the local ecosystem, far from mass tourism.
We know we still have a long way to go in this area but it seems to us very logical to financially support causes that are dear to us because they preserve and develop territories and heritage that make us live.
What is this “Replanting Program of canal du Midi “?
The 42 000 plane-trees along the canal du Midi are threatened by the uncurable colored canker disease. To respond to this emergency, the French Waterway Authorities, VNF, have launched a project for the replanting of the canal du Midi, for a total cost of 200 million euros over 20 years. Since 2006, more than 25,500 plane-trees have been cut down, and more than 13300 trees have been replanted, mixing the species (hairy oak, hackberry, plains maples, large-leaved limes, pines, …).
Every year since 2013, Locaboat supports the Fundraising Campaign and is an active member of the canal du Midi Business Sponsors Club. The company thus contributes to the replanting of the canal du Midi.
