The Canal du Midi
Built from 1666 to 1681, the Canal du Midi is the oldest canal still under operation in Europe. It shows the typical landscape of south of France, characterised by alleys of plane trees or Ash trees. All the fantastic artwork (bridges, viaducts, locks...) are original which made UNESCO classify the Canal du Midi as world heritage site in 1996. It was the first canal to be protected.
