Small islands and towns, villages with reed houses (e.g. Marano) can only be discovered with a barge. Natural treasures on the one hand, splendid cities like Venice, Padua or Treviso on the other: The Venice lagoon is a holiday destination for every season. |
The Canal du MidiBuilt from 1666 to 1681, the Canal du Midi is the oldest canal still under operation in Europe. It shows the typical landscape of south of France, characterised by alleys of plane trees or Ash trees. All the fantastic artwork (bridges, viaducts, locks...) are original which made UNESCO classify the Canal du Midi as world heritage site in 1996. It was the first canal to be protected. |

A nice stage on the Canal de Bourgogne
The Abbey of Fontenay is situated close to Montbard, the new base of Locaboat. It is one of the most beautiful and best conserved amongst all Cistercian abbeys. Founded by Bernard de Clairvaux in 1119, it was active until 1791. Since 1981, it is part of the UNESCO World heritage. You can not only visit the abbey church and the splendid monastery, but also the many common rooms like the dormitories and the chapter house, as well as the working places of the monks: The forge or the gardens.

A new departure base in Germany
Southeast of Berlin, the rivers Spree, Dahme and Oder meander through an idyllic and green landscape of forests and numerous lakes with cystal clear water. Directly at the Seebrücke of Senzig on the shores of the Krüppelsee lies our new departure base. Although only a few kilometers away from Berlin, the turbulences of the metropolis is far away.
Senzig is the ideal starting point for discoveries in the region of the Dahme lakes. A boating license is not required for most routes. An ideal target for a weekend cruise is the Scharmützelsee, the second biggest lake in Brandenburg. On its shores you can moor in Bad Saarow, a health resort with much tradition. If you have a boating licence or are from a country that doesn't have those, you have also the possibility to visit Berlin or Potsdam by boat.

News from Anjou
In the next season, the base in La Suze-sur-Sarthe will be replaces by a new base in Le Mans. That gives you the possibility to stroll through the well preserved old town before or after your cruise. Motorsport fans will of course think of the famous 24 hours of Le Mans. The city is very well connected to public transport, a direct TGV line from and to Paris exists and takes less than an hour!
